Ornellaia & Le Serre Nuove 2005

Ornellaia is one of the greatest of all Italian wines. An iconic ‘Super-Tuscan’ Ornellaia has been a trail-blazer for all that is great in contemporary Italian/Tuscan winemaking. Unashamedly showy, it is nevertheless famed for its elegance and sophistication and is one the most immediately delicious of all of the world’s truly great wines. 2005 was an outstanding Tuscan vintage which coincided with the 20th anniversary of Ornellaia, it is one of the most forward and showy examples I have ever tasted.

Chateau de Beaucastel & Perrin Family Wines

There is no single wine more synonymous with Chateauneuf-du-Pape than the mighty Chateau de Beaucastel.

Many would argue that Beaucastel needs no introduction and but I would be amiss not to, lets say “refresh” your memory and bring you up to date on this iconic estate.

The Wines of Bruno Giacosa

I can think of no Italian producer whose wines have given me as much pleasure as the Barbarescos and Barolos from Bruno Giacosa. He is one of a handful of producers whose wines I will purchase without tasting them first...Simply put, 2004 will go down as one of the all time great Giacosa vintages for both Barolo and Barbaresco’Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate.

The work of three generations of vinegrowers has resulted in the passion, knowledge and farsightedness of Bruno Giacosa. An old passion born among the best vineyards of the Lange territory, his love for great wines, particularly for Nebbiolo, and his meticulous and yet daily research for perfection have resulted in wines, that for many, are the finest in Italy, if not the world.

‘Mention Giacosa’s name to the area’s other wine producers and they offer nothing but admiration, referring to him as the ‘master’ or a ‘great man.’’
Wine Spectator, November 30th 2003.

Paul Jaboulet Aine

We have secured an allocation of the iconic Hermitage La Chapelle 2005s from Domaine Jaboulet.

In the heart of the RhôneValley, this small chapel has become one of the world’s great historic buildingsLa Chapelle, the jewel of Maison Jaboulet, has a rich and emotive history. During the 13th century, a knight called Gaspard de Sterimberg settled in the hills of Tain l’Hermitage with the permission of Blanche de Castille. On his return from the crusades, he sought calm and serenity and isolated himself as a hermit, hence the name of the Hermitage appellation. There he built a Chapel, overlooking the RhôneValley.  La Chapelle endured the passage of time and finally became the property of Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné in 1919.

Chateaude Saint Cosme

We have less than 10 cases of the fabulous 2005 Cotes du Rhone from the great Chateau de St-Cosme, owned and managed by Louis Barruol; one of undisputed true characters of the Southern Rhone.

St-Cosme is one of the most sought after estates of this region and undoubtedly Louis is one of the leading lights of the new generation of Rhone winemakers; his wines are expressive, age-worthy and great value – a combination that has won over Rhone aficionados around the world. American critic Robert Parker describes the “young, talented” Barruol as a creator of the “quintessence of Gigondas”.  But Louis is also capable of making sublime wines in the Northern Rhone (his St Joseph is amazing) as well a fabulous wines in the Cotes du Rhone regions, both red and white.

Vega Sicilia & Family – 2008 Releases

We can add to our reputation of representing the greatest Spanish wines with the new releases from Spain’s most royal of winemaking estates Vega Sicilia.

What words can be conjured up to describe the wines of Vega Sicilia? These are truly special wines. But this is no modern, points-grabbing winery. Spain's first growth has history, a sense of place and, says winemaker Xavier Ausas, a willingness to adhere to time-honoured traditions. Any amount of research points to Vega Sicilia as being the undisputed king of Spanish wines.

Chanson En Primeur 2006 Premier & Grand

If it’s good enough for Voltaire….

Since being purchased by Bollinger in 1999 the increase in quality at Chanson has been startling. For sometime Chanson was the sleeping giant of Burgundy, not making the most of some of the region’s finest 1er and Grand Cru vineyards. Today the story is very different. Under the leadership of President Giles de Courcel and winemaker Jean-Pierre Confuron the wines are amongst the finest in all of Burgundy and are a beacon of quality that their fellow Domaines would do well to take notice of. Join the likes of Voltaire and Napoleon and become a customer of Domaine Chanson.

Burgundy En Primeur 2006

If 2005 was defined by atypical power then 2006 is best understood as a vintage with traditional succulence and immediate appeal. Unquestionably 2006 is a very good vintage and yet, due to a very different growing season, it is one which enjoys a thoroughly different style to its predecessor. With some brilliant Meursault & Puligny-Montrachet making headlines the focus is on white wines but it is becoming clear that the red wines are winning favour across the world amongst lovers of classic Burgundy.
