Introducing Champagne Lallier

We are delighted to announce that we will be representing the illustrious Grand Cru Champagnes of the house of Lallier. This remarkable house own twelve hectares of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Grand Cru village of Ay and the Cote des Blancs, nestled deep in the Marne Valley. Ay, one of the original Grand Cru villages has been made famous by a certain Grande Marque; our friends at Champagne Bollinger, a mere stones throw from the gates of Lallier.

Although the Lallier family have been established in Champagne for five generations, it was not until 1996, when Monsieur James Lallier bought the premises of the house of Rene Brun, that the brand was established. In 2003 Lallier built a modern winery above a labyrinth of many of the oldest cellars in the area. It is here that up to 750,000 bottles of their Champagne slowly matures under the experienced eye of their cellar-master. With typical bottle age of almost five years, Lallier take the careful aging of their best champagnes with the utmost seriousness.

Today Lallier is owned and managed by Francois Tribaut. Born into a Champagne family, Francois is passionate and obsessive about the region, about Ay, and particularly about Champagne Lallier. His expertise and drive has resulted in this relatively new house of Champagnes being showered with awards. In both the French and international press few houses have been so praised for their efforts over the last decade. – click on the links below to view these awards in full.

How to destroy 3,200 bottles of "Champagne"

Last week, Belgian customs authorities seized and destroyed 3,200 bottles of Californian Andre sparkling wine that was discovered en route to a cruise ship. Andre, produced by Gallo, is one of several American sparkling wine brands that are still labeled 'California Champagne'. The shipment also contained other bottles labeled 'sparkling wine', which were not destroyed. EU law states that the name Champagne refers only to wines produced in the French appellation of Champagne. Other wines labeled as 'Champagne' can be seized as counterfeit. Click here for a VIDEO
