Jack & Knox Winecraft is a collaboration between Bruce Jack of Flagstone fame and wine writer Graham Knox. The pair have travelled thousands of miles in search of blocks of top quality fruit for their ‘Extreme’ vineyard programme and the result is a series of individualistic wines from all over the Cape.
Although the Jack and Knox passion is to produce white varietals in their optimum condition, the duo have turned their hand to making a most striking red from the Shiraz grape. Sourcing fruit from what they consider to be optimum vineyards they have set out to produce a silky smooth example of what can be done with a combination of the best fruit and great skill in the winery – all this with a variety that is not free from its critics who often put South African Shiraz in the ‘could do better’ category.
This intriguing wine is introduced by a flurry of violet and sweet-spice aromas with base notes of molasses and sprinklings of classic shiraz white pepper. Not only does it drink beautifully, but it lingers hauntingly - soft-grained, suede-like tannins hold the supple polished fruit that expresses juicy raspberry with hints of anise. Enticing and succulent, the wine evolves with ephemeral beauty in the glass.
Produced from fruit grown in South Africa’s oldest Shiraz vineyard in the heart of the West Coast ‘Shiraz country. This is a big, muscular red with spice, rich plummy fruits, mid range tannins & a long clean finish. The Outsider has already won huge critical acclaim in the UK.
