Best 2010 - 2015

Only 600 cases are produced of this excellent Pinot from the Adealide Hills.

Grosset Wines is an independently owned winery in the Clare Valley that produces six highly wines each vintage. Grosset was established in 1981 by Jeffrey Grosset in the township of Auburn in the Clare Valley, 100 kilometres north of Adelaide. The winery is stylish but functional and reflects the attention to detail that extends to the Grosset estate-owned vineyards and winemaking. While various producers have built their reputation on Pinot Noir, none has equalled the success Grosset has enjoyed with this variety grown in the Adelaide Hills. Given that the re-planting of vineyards in the Adelaide Hills has only occurred since the early 1980s, their full potential is only just emerging.

In comparison with the 2006 vintage, the 2007 Grosset Pinot Noir is more deliciously approachable while young and yet gives promise of developing body, weight and complexity with time in the bottle. The wine has excellent varietal character - from vibrant brambly characters, some earthy, gamey, truffly notes, satiny smooth texture moving towards velvety even at this young age. There is weight, a tight structure which provides focus, seamless integration of fruit, oak and ripe silky tannins before a pristine finish that lingers long and fine. It is seriously irresistible drinking now and so should be eeked out sparingly so that your stocks enable you to see how well it develops, even with short term cellaring.

Nick Stock, The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2010 94 points
The most highly priced wine in the Grosset stable, this ’07 Adelaide Hills pinot is a pristine statement of restrained pinot fruit, cherries, and a gentle hint of sweet spice. Still very unevolved and fresh with gentle background oak. There’s a fleshy and intense palate, vibrant, bright cherry fruit flavour and a svelte acid frame. Tannins ride smoothly across the palate, lifting with a musky red fruit finish.

Huon Hooke, Gourmet Traveller Wine August/September 2009, Top 100 New Releases, 93 points
Sweet cherry, almost bubblegum aromas; delicious cherry flavours; sweetly ripe and lovely. Lighter coloured but with a good red-purple hue. Medium-bodied, finely textured, stylish and fragrant, almost luscious flavour.

Tyson Stelzer, WBM 100 April 2009,93 points
This is a delicate style with pretty fruit and firm, grippy tannins that will benefit from time to soften. Layered with fresh rose petal and red cherry aromas overlaying notes of stalk, savoury spice and nutmeg. There is a mineralality to its structure that carries on to a long finish.
