The 2006 vintage has handed Didier another opportunity to develop his skills and winemaking style. His small (but growing) production of white wines are his best yet whilst his reds show more perfume and immediate appeal than he has previous achieved.
If any single wine defines the new Delagrange style then this is still it. Didier’s grandfather painstakingly replanted his part of the vineyard in 1936. Today these 70 year old vines are producing very small quantities of exquisite fruit which under the winemaker’s careful control are producing wine with beautifully soft tannins, gentle acidity and elegance. The fruit concentration of the 2006 vintage is perfect and is clearly capable of providing immediate pleasure or prolonged aging in bottle, adding layer upon layer of complexity. This is a superb example of 1er Cru Volnay that will excite any Burgundy fan.
A famous 1er Cru wine that will gain in complexity for a decade, or more.
