With 34 hectares of well-sited vineyard, Markus is one of the middle Mosel's most impottant growers. During the difficult years when the value of German vineyards fell dramatically, Markus had the conviction, knowledge and foresight to take advantage of the low prices and bought up a significant number of small parcels in the finest parts of the best vineyards.
With vertiginous slopes, slatey soils and long, slow, ripening, a gifted producer can weave together that vibrant mix of minerality, acidity, sweetness and ripeness. Markus Molitor excels at this and is without doubt amongst the very best.
Bernkasteler lay is 2nd only to the famous Bernkasteler Doktor site. Markus owns some really good quality parcels here, including some very fine 100 year old vines. This wine is dry, lythe, lemony and zippy. Very fresh acids and a really strong finish. This is fine, fresh, distinctive wine which is much more 'playful' than most.
