Lehmann's Andrew Wigan wins Winemaker of the Year - 05.10.09

Australia’s leading wine magazine, Gourmet Traveller WINE has awarded the title of Australian Winemaker of the Year title to Andrew Wigan, Chief Winemaker of Peter Lehmann wines in the Barossa Valley.
As reported on their website, Wigan was chosen not just for his obvious talent with great red wines such as Stonewell Shiraz, but also with whites.

They say: “The second golden era of Wigan’s time at Peter Lehmann has seen a change in the white wines, which fellow judge Huon Hooke describes as “nothing short of revolutionary”. The refinement of the Margaret Semillon and Wigan Riesling has resulted in tremendous show success in recent times. These are now world-class whites of incomparable finesse, delicacy and subtlety that age beautifully. As well as this, the budget-priced Peter Lehmann Semillon and Eden Valley and Barossa Riesling have been significantly improved and represent extraordinary value for money.”

Anyone lucky enough to be present at the 25 years of Stonewell Shiraz tasting which Andrew hosted this year will testify to his dedication and extreme humility despite the number of accolades to have come his way over the past quarter century.
