Dense purple colour, with an almost black appearance. Dark chocolate, anise and all spice dominate the nose, supported by hints of French oak, cherries and coffee. A fresh and juicy mid-palate enhances tannin and length. The wine has flavours of fresh cut plums and liquorice with hints of blackberry and espresso. A long and lingering finish. WINNER - IWC SILVER MEDAL
Named after a mythical monster, the 2005 Shiraz Savitar emerges from rocky, low vigor soils, and was aged for 16 months in primarily new French oak barrels. The winemaker is, of course, the talented Ben Glaetzer. Made in tiny quantities this is something quite special.
Frank Mitolo and winemaker Ben Glaetzer are masters of South Australian red wines. Their barnstorming 2006 Cabernet is made using unconventional techniques stolen from Italy. The world's leading wine journal has rated it a whopping 92/100. Yet again Mitolo Jester leads the way in the 'bang for your buck' stakes.
This is a 'Tour de Force' in winemaking. 95/100 Robert Parker. Mitolo’s GAM Shiraz (named from the initials of Franks three children; Gemma, Alexander and Marco) is produced by fruit grown in the McLaren Vale region of South Australia.
