Burgundy, situated in central east France, stretches from Chablis in the North to Macon and Beaujolais in the South. Arguably the most beautiful wine producing region in France, nowhere else quite manages to weave the messages of land, wine and cuisine into such a coherent single message.
In most of Burgundy, vineyards (not wines or producers) are classified into a three tier system: grand cru, premier cru and village. Superficially straightforward, this does mean that a village wine by a talented producer can surpass the grand cru wines made by an under-achiever. In Burgundy Producer is Everything.
