2005 is a superb Hunter red vintage and one of the best we have seen at Meerea Park in our 16 years. The wines have the fruit power of the famed 2003 vintage but also have wonderfully soft tannins that make them very balanced and highly drinkable upon release. This softness should not inhibit their cellaring capability.
Serious boutique and hand-made estate from the cool-climate vineyards of NSW. This small producer are darlings of the international wine media with scores to match. Nevertheless they are wines of create restraint and elegance and truly reflect the unique terroir of the Hunter Valley.
The 2001 release from Meerea Park was the first of this blend from the Hunter Valley. Viognier is proving to be well suited to the Upper Hunter climate producing fruit with true varietal characteristics. Shiraz Viognier is the blend produced in France's Cote Rotie Appellation in the Northern Rhone Valley.
"It smells like the Hunter and it tates like the Hunter, it's celan and yet savoury and its tannins, so often an issue with 2004 Hunter Shiraz, have been perfectly managed. Blackberry, plums, saltbush, cedar, kirsch - this is a very swish wine. Drink 2010-2017. 94 points.
Alexander Munro was winemaker, Rhys Eather’s great-great-grandfather and these true reserve wines are released only in years that reflect the status of the label. The 2000 vintage was the Trophy winner at the 2000 Hunter Valley Wine Show for current vintage Chardonnay.
Semillon is traditionally the first fruit harvested in the Hunter Valley each year for still wine production. For Meerea Park, this signals the commencement of each vintage and this is our 'epoch'.

The 2007 is our 9th vintage of Viognier, the first release being from the 1999 vintage. It was previously named ‘Lindsay Hill’ until the 2003 vintage. Viognier is native to the Condrieu appellation in the Northern Rhone Valley, which shares the similar low fertility soils, and dry vintage conditions of the Upper Hunter.
Hell Hole is classic, multi award-winning Hunter Valley Semillon. The wine is made from fruit harvested off a Semillon block on the low yielding, 38 year old Howard family's "Somerset" vineyard in Pokolbin. It is made in stainless steel and bottled under screw-cap to retain freshness.
