Riesling

Riesling.  Pronounced Reez-ling

Is there a more abused and maligned grape variety than the Riesling? Perhaps Riesling suffers from "trying to please all of the people all of the time" syndrome? Capable of searing dryness and unctuous sweetness, as well as super-intensity and banal nothingness for many people the question remains; "What is Riesling?"

One thing is for sure it is, at long last, fashionable once again. The great vineyards of Germany are once again seeing demand climb from both their established markets in the West and new markets in the East. What is more the grape is growing in popularity in countries where their anti-Riesling prejudices are less well entrenched than the UK. Austria, France, USA, New Zealand and Australia cannot get enough of this renaissance variety.

Drink 2008 - 2010

A wonderfully intense Riesling nose, very flinty and minerally with a slight sensation of being sweet even though the wine is dry on the palate. The nose follows through to the palate. Well balanced with a nice, full mouth feel, concentrated flavours and good acidity. Floral with hints of coriander and crunchy apples. Pleasant, lingering aftertaste.
