Bordeaux Blend

Bordeaux Blend.

The Bordeaux blend of red wine grapes involves Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec & Petit Verdot. The exact blend depends upon the plantings at any given estate, the vintage conditions, the location of the estate and the policy of the winemaker.

On Bordeaux's 'left bank' Cabernet Sauvignon typically leads the charge with the four additional varieties being added in decreasing quantities as laid out above.  On the 'right-bank', in villages such as St Emilion and Pomerol, Merlot dominates, but rarely is it exclusive either.
