The Castello Vicchiomaggio wines may not hav the same profile as Ornellaia or even Fontodi but are seriously amazing, easily as fine and expressive as any of the other great Tuscan estates that we already work closely with. John is a great guy, English born and brought up in London’s East End around the family business, before the family returned home to Italy and bought the Castello in 1964 and restored it back to its considerable former splendour. Today their production is from the very traditional to the extremely innovative.

Amongst the highlights are a beautifully framed mini-Super-Tuscan, a glorious Chianti Classico Riserva and something very special in the way of a 100% Merlot Super Tuscan (a seriously impressive number that’s right up there Petrolo’s Galatrona and stylistically we think is much closer to the famed £400 a bottle Masseto by Ornellaia. The latter is quite something as you’d expect.
