To celebrate 50 years of Bond and the launch of the latest film Skyfall, Bollinger are re-releasing 2002 La Grande Année in a very smart special limited edition gift pack. The product, called 002 for 007, comprises a bottle of La Grande Année 2002 housed in a gun silencer shaped gift box with a combination lock – opened using the code: 007. This special limited edition innovative gift, dedicated to Bond fans around the world, will understandably be a massive collector’s item and therefore we expect that demand will far exceed supply, hence the reason for our email now. Just 30,000 packages have been produced for sale worldwide.

The bottle carries a unique “50 years of Bond” logo on the neck label, textured to mimic the grip on a handgun, and will be available from 1 October.

2012 marks 39 years since Bollinger developed an on-screen relationship with the fictional character created by Ian Fleming, and James Bond has been seen drinking Bollinger in 12 films of the 23 made in total.

Not surprisingly Bollinger’s connection to the Bond films is helping boost sales of the brand around the world and in Asia in particular. “They go crazy for Bond in Asia, which is really helping with brand recognition and giving our sales a boost,” said Bollinger president Jérôme Philipon, when speaking back in March.

Champagne Bollinger has been Bond’s champagne of choice for many years now. Bollinger was first mentioned in Ian Fleming’s novel Diamonds are Forever in 1956. Since its first appearance on-screen in ‘Live and Let Die’ in 1973, Bollinger has featured in thirteen Bond films and since 1979 (Moonraker) has been the exclusive Champagne of James Bond. 2002 Grand Annee is one of the great vintages of this iconic Champagne. For those who crack the code with drinking in mind, the 02 vintage will develop in bottle for another decade or more.

Bollinger

Champagne Bollinger was established in 1829 by Jacques Bollinger and to this day is still family owned.  Benefitting from ownership of 163 hectares of vineyards in the finest Premier and Grand Cru sites the highest quality fruit is secure, the majority of which is Pinot Noir.

Bollinger only uses the cuvée (first press) which gives a purer and finer juice. Vinification is done by varietal and by cru delivering an impressive collection of base wines to make up the blend of Bollinger Special Cuvée and Bollinger Rosé. As well as this, a unique collection of 600,000 magnums of reserve wine are stored in the cellars in Aÿ under natural cork.  These are skilfully blended by Chef de Cave Mathieu Kauffmann to make non vintage blends of distinction.

La Grande Année is produced in exceptional years interpreting the vintage in the style of Bollinger.  Very old oak barrels are used to vinify the wines encouraging complexity and breadth without imparting an oak character. Extended ageing and incredibly careful handling make this one of the most sought after prestige cuvées in the market. Bollinger R.D. experiences even longer lees ageing to produce a wine of incredible complexity exposed by its recent disgorgement and very low dosage.

Each of the Bollinger cuvées is a careful assembly of the very finest ingredients by their talented, passionate team, in accordance with the House’s unique Charter of Ethics and Quality, created by Christian Bizot in 1992.
