A family-run Champagne house, Champagne Robert Moncuit has a long history going back five generations. Alex Moncuit started the vineyard in the 1890s but it was not until 1935 that Robert, his grandson created his first cuvée and Champagne Robert Moncuit was born. Robert Moncuit continued to produce this exceptional Champagne until his death in 1987. This Champagne house is now in the safe hands of his daughter Françoise and it is her son Pierre, who has been winemaker since 2000.The estate has 8 hectares under vine in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, the village that is also home to Krug and Salon, in the heart of what is perhaps the most sought after of all the grands crus within the Côte de Blancs. Naturally the wines are 100% Chardonnay and are a true reflection of the terroir, combining taut acidity, floral, citrus and hazelnut aromas. The fruit is hand-harvested and sorted in the winery, having travelled no more than a few hundred metres. Basket presses are used to crush the fruit keeping solid extract to a minimum, which ensures that the wine is kept clean and unaffected by unwanted phenolics. The different wines are carefully assembled and older vintages blended to attain the quality desired. For the first time we are able to offer a small quantity of their exquisite Vintage, a wine which takes the flavours of their brilliant Blanc de Blancs NV and adds layer upon layer.
Developed exclusively during only the best years, the Grande Cuvée is assembled from fruit selected from their two oldest vineyards – both planted over 50 years ago. Pushed to the maximum maturity, from low, low yieldsit brings an impressive range of aromas; hazelnut, honey and toast. The finish is joined by tropical and candied fruits, all flavours worthy of the greatest Blanc de Blancs.
