John Duval Plexus White MRV 2011

Marsanne, Barossa Valley, South Australia, Australia, 2011
From only £19.80 per bottle

In Stock Equiv £19.80 (Save £13.20)

This is a Rhone inspired blend of Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier. Marsanne was sourced from the Marananga region, Roussanne from the Kalimna region and Viognier from Eden Valley.

Gentle pressings were combined with free run juice and cold settled. Fermentation commenced in stainless steel but some of the Marsanne and Viognier finished fermentation in and was aged in barrel until bottled in late September. The remaining Marsanne and the Roussanne was aged on lees in tank until bottling, to enhance the structure and texture of the wine. 50% aged in fine grain French oak (with only 7% new oak) for 7 months.

Winemakers Comments
My aim with Plexus MRV is to promote a vibrant expression of fruit aromas from the interaction of the three varieties; and on the palate, to build structure and texture, rather than just acid crispness.

Attractive pale straw with lime tinge. Lifted aromas of stone fruits and citrus. Medium bodied with texture and mouth feel. Flavours of mandarin, pear and Asian spice. Finishes with citrus, minimal acidity.  In our experience this wine really benefits from around 1 year in bottle before opening.

John Duval Wines

As well as being voted Decanter Magazine, man of the year, John was named International Winemaker of the Year at the UK’s 1989 International Wine & Spirit Competition, In 1991, and again in 2000, he was named Red Winemaker of the Year by the IWC. John is undoubtedly one of the world’s great winemakers and can call on some of the Barossa Valley’s greatest grape farmers (all are long standing friends) for his supply of fruit.

His wines, a Shiraz and a Shiraz/Grenache/Mouvedre blend – are sourced from old Barossa vines aged between 50 and 100 years old. John’s aim with the Entity Shiraz is to produce a wine true to the Barossa Valley, allowing the wine to be approachable in its youth, but with ample structure and fruit depth to allow great potential for improvement in the bottle under good cellaring conditions, for at least 10 years. His aim with Plexus is to express the wide spectrum of red fruit flavours from Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre. Traditional, low intervention winemaking techniques are employed with Plexus, allowing the wine to be approachable in its youth, but also have great potential for improvement in the bottle for at least 8-10 years.

We have built a close relationship with John and as a result we are delighted to receive an allocation of his excellent “Reserve Shiraz’ called Eligo. Hard to come by, please join our waiting list if you want to receive an allocation
