Sourced from Chenin Blanc vines planted in 1967, with natural wild yeast fermentation, and raised in about 85% new oak, the flagship 2010 The FMC is a tremendous wine.

Food Matching Note:
Enjoy with special friends as an exciting aperitif or with spiced dishes, even mild seafood/shellfish or curries. Great with exotic Eastern spiced foods.

Vinification Note:
Hand selected Chenin Blanc primarily from low yielding, old bush vines (planted in 1974). Harvested at full maturity. Natural wild yeast fermentation in new French oak 400 L barrels. Due to repetitive harvesting some botrytis is always present. Maturation on the lees total of 12 months in the barrel.
The pinnacle of what we consider to be the finest expression of the grapes of this varietal an icon chenin, a challenge to the world! Rich, layered with dried apricot, vanilla and honey. Will gain additional complexity with cellaring.

Sourced from Chenin Blanc vines planted in 1967, with natural wild yeast fermentation, and raised in about 85% new oak, the flagship The FMC has a beautifully defined, intoxicating bouquet with lemon curd, frangipane, almond and just a touch of nutmeg. The palate has a rounded, waxy texture with wonderful harmony and precision. There are subtle flavours of dried apricot, brioche, vanilla, a touch of honey (perhaps a little botrytis) and a hint of spice. Seductive, harmonious and very focussed, The FMC is a sublime expression of South African Chenin Blanc. Drink now-2020.

Fiona Beckett, The Guardian
"If a winemaker has a big personality, it shines right through the range. Take Ken Forrester, a larger-than-life South African winemaker whose top wine, The FMC 2009 Chenin Blanc is often compared to great white burgundy"

Ken Forrester

Drawing on the examples of top Loire whites, he has used his uniquely placed Chenin vines to maximum effect and has single-handedly led a Chenin Blanc quality revolution. As a result these wines have achieved iconic status worldwide. At the top end there is the beautifully balanced barrel-fermented Chenin FMC, made from fruit grown at Ken’s Stellenbosch vineyard, and the silky fine red The Gypsy, made from low-yielding vines. An exciting range of wines from a great winemaker.
