Mas de Boislauzon La Chaussynette 2011

Mas de Boislauzon is run by siblings Daniel and Christine Chaussy. Just south of Ornage and a mile or so west of Chateau de Beaucastel, it consists of 8ha of Red and 1ha of white Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Their reputation for very fine Chateauneuf is extremely high and their Cote de Rhone Villages is amongst the stars of the Appellation. However, it’s neither of these wines I am writing to you about today.

The estate produce a superb ‘Vin de France’ that they call La Chaussynette. It’s an unfiltered blend of Syrah 70% and Grenache 30% made from a blend of fruit harvested from Cotes du Rhone Villages and Chateauneuf-du-Pape vineyards. Yesterday our team tasted the 2011 vintage:

“Looks and smells very sophisticated, with a tremendous mouthfeel and texture. You cannot ignore the great layers of Chateauneuf spice and herb. The velvety softness and fruit of the Southern Rhone comes through on a wave of soft tannins. Overall this is a luxurious and exciting experience. It will doubtless cellar for 3-5 years but it’s unlikely many people with be able to hold-off that long.” Ed Wells
