The vineyards of Pouilly-Fumé are located on the right bank of the Loire River opposite those of Sancerre. Here too, Sauvignon Blanc is the varietal of choice.

Jean-Max Roger does not own any vines within this appellation. They buy must or wine from local producers with whom they have worked for over 20 years.

This Pouilly-Fumé is a Sauvignon Blanc made from grapes grown in siliceous clay and clay-limestone soils.
It is the blending of these wines made from grapes grown in two different types of soil that gives this Pouilly-Fumé “Les Chante-Alouettes” its intensity and aromatic richness. Flinty soil adds a smoky touch of gunflint while clay lends floral notes and brings out the wine’s richness on the palate.

This wine is best served chilled at between 8° and 12°C. It may be enjoyed as an aperitif. It is the perfect match for crustaceans, shellfish, and raw or cooked fish. It may also be served with white meats (poultry, veal) and goat’s cheeses.

Les Chante Alouettes has great intensity and aromatic richness. The flinty soil adds the mineral and gunflint character, whilst the clay soil provides the floral aromatics and fruit concentration, essentially bringing out the richness on the palate.  Best serves between 8 & 12 degrees C, it makes a good aperitif and is a good match for most seafood and shellfish. Lighter meat dishes and goats cheese are also exceptional matches.
This domaine, famous for Sancerre is much loved by critics as significant as Robert Parker and UK Loire specialist Jim Budd.

Domaine Jean-Max Roger

The wines of Jean-Max Roger, his Sancerre, Pouilly-Fume, Menetou-Salon and Rose offer absolutely everything that you would expect from a first class Loire wine producer – freshness, character, lots of herb and fruit characters plus that quintessential Loire style.

HarperWells have been working with this Domaine since 2006 and describe them as the producer of our most classic whites and the Domaine with the most fiercely loyal following. US critic Robert Parker rates Jean-Max Roger as an "Excellent" producer.... and described the Cuvée GC as "One of the greatest Sancerres I have ever tasted."
