The 2008 Jester Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep crimson colour, with brick red hues. On the nose liquorice, nutmeg and cassis notes provide a lift to the subtle hints of French oak. It is well rounded on the palate and the firm tannins are complemented by nuances of chocolate, blackcurrant and earth.
There is growing belief from winemaker Vincent himself that he is learning how to get the very best from his St Aubin vineyards. Vintage after vintage the wine is increasing in complexity and elegance. Lean and mineral with a pleasing almond note this is a wine that flows easily into a gentle relaxed style, never losing that essential St Aubin edginess. Beautifully balanced with abundant freshness and no little depth.
Sappy, mineral and driven by zesty fruit, the 2007 Bourgogne from Alain Chavy is calmer than the 05 and 06 delivering the promise of early pleasure - yet a year of bottle age would certainly allow this wine to show full potential.
