A classic left bank Bordeaux. Bold, black fruited, powerful but with Saint Estèphe elegance. Deep ruby colour with a hint of purple. Blackcurrant, crunchy redcurrant and bramble. A hint of violet, baking spice and liquorice. The tannins are strong but fine, perfect for red meats, and the finish is exceptionally long.
6 bottle case – £200
Monastrell / Cabernet Sauvignon
From 50 year old bush vines on stony, sandy and limestone soils. The grapes are hand harvested and sorted. Fermented on the skins in stainless steel tanks, the wine then undergoes maturation for 10 months in new French oak barrels.
Deep shiny garnet colour with violet highlights. On the nose it is complex, with ripe blackberries aromas of blueberries and raspberries along with delicated clove and pepper spices. Aged in oak it has cacao and vanilla nuances. Soft on the palate with sweet tannins, good concentration, a complex mouthfeel and velvety finish.
Located in the heart of the ancient Chianti Classico region, in Panzano in Chianti, one hour’s drive from Florence, Tenuta Casenuove covers 105 hectares spread over a succession of hills and valleys. There are 28 hectares under vine (in organic conversion), the rest of the estate largely laid to forest and olive groves. Planted high above the Pesa river at altitudes of 370 to 490 metres, in soils rich in the famed local galestro, a rocky, schistous clay terrain.
This Chianti balances dark fruits with freshness, a touch of spice and a subtle savouriness. Perfect for roast meats, hard cheeses and hearty autumnal fare, this is a wine we can’t get enough of.
Sourced from Massa Estate in Carmel Valley. This organic vineyard is a great example of what the Santa Lucia Highlands can offer.
Instantly recognisable as a Californian Chardonnay, yet it possesses a wonderful lightness of being that’s difficult to express without a glass in your hand. Elegance, purity of fruit with a gentle touch of oak to add depth, it’s hard to go wrong with this one!
The winemakers Ben Brenner and Matt Nagy say Chardonnay is often described as crisp or heavy oak, “why choose when you can have balance?”
Very limited supply.
Sourced from a 45 year old site up near Ukiah, Mendocino, nearly 200m above sea level.
Fermented long and cool in stainless steel, with the ferment stopped dry, retaining 15.5g/l R.S. It’s exceptionally well balanced with the high acidity you’d expect from a Riesling. Wonderfully composed with plenty of depth and complexity, a firm favourite of ours yet in very limited supply. This is the last ever vintage of this wine as the farmer ripped up the vines and replaced them with Chardonnay stock after the 2019 harvest.
Best to secure your bottles quickly before they run out!
70% Monastrell / 15% Cabernet Sauvignon / 15% Tintorera
From bush and trellis vines on majority limestone soils. Hand harvested and sorted, then destemmed without pressing and fermentation with natural yeasts in small stainless steel vats. Matured for 10 months in French (70%) and American (30%) oak barrels.
Deep dark red, clean and bright. Aromas of ripe red fruit (plum, cranberries) and spices. On the palate, the ripe red fruit notes return along the jam and spices. The oak notes are totally integrated. Full, complex and structured, with elegant silky tannins and good balance.
The winery has been fully fitted out with stainless steel, automatic temperature controlled tanks for fermenting and storing the wine. The primary vinification facility has been completely renewed with the best possible equipment for gently crushing, de stemming, pressing the grapes- in order to be able to maintain all the quality in the grapes. All of the grapes for this wine come from their own estate and are harvested early in the morning to avoid the heat which would otherwise cause the juice to become pink during fermentation.
The grapes were lightly crushed and then further cooled to 8°C before a gentle pressing in state of the art vacuum presses. Free run juice is separated from the heavier pressing and decanted into stainless steel temperature controlled tanks for 48 to 72 hours, until perfectly clarified. The clear juice is transferred to stainless steel fermenters and inoculate with selected yeast to begin fermentation which takes 3 weeks at 10°C. The wine is kept on fine lees until bottling.
Lovely, opulent aromas of grapefruit and peach follow through to a lithe body, with loads of fruit as well as abundant melon and apple character and citrusy acidity.
Serve at 8°C to 10°C with chicken, fish dishes, light seafood dishes.
100% estate grown gapes from the Uberland Hill vineyard. Conventional new world viticulture and meticulous canopy management. Grown on a variety of soils, from cracking clay to limestone rich loam. All vineyards are non-irrigated. Trained to vertical shoot positioned trellis with 2 to 4 canes per vine with replacement spurs. Intervine soil management by cultivation. Yields from 5 to 15 tonnes per hectare.
25% of the grapes were transferred directly into 1000 kg bins without being destemmed then sealed and put through a carbonic maceration and fermentation for 10 days in order to produce a strawberry, fruity part of the blend. The remaining 75% was destemmed, lightly crushed and then macerated and fermented normally at 25°C in stainless steel automated fermenters. Both wines where then separately pressed and the noncarbonic maceration wine was lightly oaked for 2 months with French oak before blending.
Gorgeous flavours, almost syrupy in its concentration. Dark, rich and potent, with layers of black cherry, raspberry and cinnamon. Deep, with pretty fruit cake and spicy aromatics. A lovely long and lingering finish.
Pair with:semi hard cheeses, salmon, tuna, pork dishes made in the oven, duck, turkey in red sauce.
A mixed 18 bottles to explore the Cramele Recas range:
A mountainous terrain surrounds the vineyards and dominates the landscape.
Refreshing like a white wine, with the complexity of red wine. This orange wine is made by leaving the grape skins and seeds in contact with the pressed juice, creating a deep orange-hued finish. The wine ferments naturally without the addition of yeasts, sulphur or any other additions. The different varieties are then blended and before a natural cold stabilisation, and bottled unfiltered and unfined.
Dark straw in colour with orange hints, the nose is a delicate mélange of quince, poire william and a hint of vanilla. A complex and structured wine, with elegant but discreet fruit flavours of stone fruits, backed up with a powerful tannin structure and long finish. A natural minimal intervention wine which is well balanced and structured yet pure and incredibly fresh.
Pair with: hard and semi hard cheese, tuna steak and chicken.
